In 2026, architecture dives into the abyss. We present the concept of Underwater Lobbies—the pinnacle of engineering and design for coastal megacities. Thanks to new ultra-strong acrylic technologies and sealing systems, being underwater has become absolutely safe and incredibly aesthetic. At Reception Space, we create spaces where instead of walls, there is a living ocean. We explore how hydrotechnical innovations are opening a new chapter in the history of premium hospitality.
Transparent Armor: Acrylic vs Pressure
Building an underwater lobby in 2026 has become possible thanks to multi-layered optical acrylic up to 300mm thick. This material is clearer than ordinary glass yet possesses 20 times the strength. In Reception Space projects, we design curved windows that ideally distribute water pressure. Guests feel themselves in a cocoon of calm, observing the life of marine inhabitants. This is architecture that doesn't oppose the elements but becomes a part of them.
Light from the Abyss: Hydro-Lighting
Natural play of glimmers underwater
2026 underwater lobby lighting is an art of balancing natural blue spectrum and warm interior light. At Reception Space, we use external laser spotlights that cut through the water column, creating a 'light column' effect. Inside the lobby, light automatically adjusts to water turbidity and time of day, providing ideal comfort for the eyes. In every moment, the interior changes along with the movement of waves and fish, creating a unique visual rhythm.
